As you may know, if you’ve been following my Instagram page in particular, in February we acquired a commercial space that I planned to turn into my boudoir photography studio. Needless to say I’ve been plucking away at it and am fittingly frustrated that it isn’t done yet and ready for business.
But, before I complain about all of that I must absolutely be grateful for the the fact that it isn’t finished in the at most three months I thought it should take because I keep getting called away on business stuff and that is something to be grateful for.
But I digress. We are so very close to being finished and I couldn’t be more excited to start really shooting in there, even though one of the sets has actually been shot on as shown in the image below. But it wasn’t finished either.

But the other night I decided to go in and test one of the nearly finished sets. It’s what will become the NYC Penthouse set. Everything about it is pretty much finished, except the backdrop. There are numerous flourishes etc. for the set. A lot of things that are things directly tied to myself as a photographer.
But I wanted to do a test to see how I might light the location and how it would photograph. Something I need to do with the other sets as well. But I was excited to finally shoot in the space.
I set up only two strobes, because I was being lazy and realize it will likely require at least four maybe five strobes to really light that set up properly.

I had a flash with the reflector and CTO to motivate the tungsten light already in the room. Then, at camera left I had another light in a thirty-five inch Octabox with inner baffeling and a grid to direct the light onto the subject.
I should have added a strip box with grid but I was being lazy. And this is one of the times it cost me the perfect shots. Roni James and I did have some fun and came away with some useable shots. The 360 video will give you a bit of a better idea of what the set up was like, and will also show you some more of the studio.

Things are truly coming along quickly and I am starting to get excited about finally getting customers into the space to shoot. So now I start the advertising to get customers in by the end of February, early March.
I am also going to be planning a workshop or two in the space as soon as I figure out the best way to make that happen. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the video.
