As an experienced individual in the modeling industry, I often come across numerous casting calls in various model and photographer groups. It never fails to surprise me how many aspiring models struggle with the simple task of properly applying for these opportunities.

Having been on both sides of the casting process, as a professional photographer for brands, and as someone who posts casting calls, I understand the importance of professionalism and submitting a well-crafted application for a casting call.

When applying for a casting call, it’s crucial to go beyond the basics and make an impression. Take the time to thoroughly read and understand the requirements outlined in the casting call.

Pay attention to any specific instructions regarding application format, content, or additional materials requested. Failure to follow these instructions may result in your application being overlooked, no matter how talented you are.

If you do not meet the requirements of the casting then do not apply. You will waste the time of whoever it is that is doing the casting. Trust me when I say, when you anger a casting director, it can have lasting repercussions against future opportunities.

When writing your application, remember to introduce yourself in a concise and professional manner. Clearly state your name, age range, height, or specific looks, make sure to address how you meet those requirements in a convincing manner.

In addition to providing your personal information, it’s essential to include a well-curated portfolio. Select a variety of high-quality photographs that show how you’d look if you walked into their office two hours after submitting to the casting.

Keep in mind, model casting directors don’t really care about how many times you were published in digital publications, or what small level, back-alley fashion shows you were in or photoshoots you’ve done. So unless asked there is no need to mention them.

As I’m sure you can guess, nailing the casting call is the most vital thing any model will do in order to get the opportunities they want. Getting that wrong will increase the likelihood of getting the don’t call us we’ll call you response for the casting.

Most castings are not complicated. They usually include ALL the information for submission necessary and the casting people expect you to follow their instructions perfectly.
