You Must Use Contracts.

Contracts. That seemingly dirty word so many photographers seem to really dislike. It’s almost as if so many of these people don’t understand the purpose of contracts, or how having a written agreement protects them and their business. I mean really! How can you call yourself a professional and not use the tools of a professional.

I have seen some insanely ridiculous statements in a variety of groups lately about contracts and their use. Or their lack thereof. One of the groups in particular were run by a photographer who people consider a photography business mentor. She actually discouraged members in her group to not use contracts.

Ethics. A Vital Business Component.

There are a lot of people who claim to be Photography Business coaches yet they know nothing about ethics. If someone tells you that as a newbie photographer you can charge or charge whatever you want though you may not know the difference between an F-Stop and a Bus Stop; or they tell you that you don’t need to use contracts in your business they are absolutely unethical and you should immediately reject those teachings.

How Being a Boudoir Photographer Can be Difficult

You’ve decided to enter the exciting world of boudoir photography because you think it’s going to be easy and fun. Well you’re partially correct. But whatever your reason to want to add boudoir to your already existing business model or getting into it for the first time you should know; it’s not going to be easy!

There are going to be numerous obstacles to your boudoir business right out of the gate. And most of those obstacles are going to come from right within the industry itself.

There Are No Rules to Photography Because Art is Subjective??????

The so-called photographers who poo-poo the rules usually never took the time to learn them and wouldn’t understand them if they had. You can only break the rules if you know what they are. Most of the “rules” came about after years of trial and error and studying what the great master painters did.

The rule of thirds comes from the psychology of how the eyes look at any image or surface; and where things look best positioned. This is science people! Not subjective decisions.

I’ve been seeing a lot of talk once again about retouching images and how only old school photographers say things like “get it right in camera”. Or people talking about how photography is different today than it was 30 years ago.

Today; Photoshop is a part of photography. Or so they try to tell me.

Why Printing is Critical To Business Success!

“Print is dead.” “No one wants to buy prints.” These are some of the excuses I see people posting about why they don’t offer prints for their clients. I will get into the foolishness of these statements shortly.

Printing your images shows you in no uncertain terms what you could improve on in terms of your lighting and how you compose your images.
