While the concept of outdoor boudoir may seem appealing to some, it’s important to note that boudoir photography traditionally takes place in an intimate indoor setting. The purpose of boudoir photography is to capture images that celebrates and empowers women. It is a specialized genre that requires skill, artistry, and a keen understanding of lighting, composition, and posing techniques. So why do we so often hear the term “outdoor” boudoir?

When we introduce the idea of outdoor boudoir, it can pose unique challenges from a technical and aesthetic standpoint. Factors such as varying natural lighting conditions, limited privacy, and unpredictable outdoor elements may affect the overall quality and ambiance that can be achieved in a traditional indoor boudoir setting.

But at the end of the day anything not in a woman’s boudoir is called glamour! Period end. No there has been no evolution of the word boudoir. Outdoor, lake, mountain, field, stream boudoir are just terms made up by photographic hacks in Facebook groups and people need to stop using them.

Additionally, the concept itself is contradictory. Boudoir photography creates a private and intimate atmosphere where the subject feels comfortable and confident. The outdoors, on the other hand, tends to be more public and potentially distracting, which could compromise the desired mood and focus of the shoot.

Therefore, truly experienced professional boudoir photographers work exclusively in controlled indoor bedroom and or bathroom environments, where we can meticulously craft the perfect ambiance, use professional lighting equipment, and create a safe and comfortable space for their clients.

While there are no strict rules in the field of photography, it is always important for photographers and clients alike to have a clear understanding of their objectives and expectations. And to do that we need to use the proper terminology to ensure we are clear in our conversations.
